HP Labs CTO, Shane Wall, visited South Africa recently on a whirlwind 3-day trip that saw him talking to local HP employees, chatting with the media, and conducting in-depth sessions with interested stakeholders like local CIOs and the Responsible Business Forum around the mega-trends facing the IT industry globally.
He even had time for a short visit to the Liliesleaf Museum for a quick historical tour of the world-famous heritage site, coffee with HP South Africa employees, and a dinner with social entrepreneurs at Signature Restaurant in Morningside, Johannesburg.
His key message was around the idea that future tech in Africa should focus on three key metrics, namely mobility, security, and ease of use. A big part of that will be the transition to digital, moving services to the cloud, and increasing the safety of all that use the internet.
Africa’s big advantage, he says, lies in its ability to collaborate and use cutting-edge technology to leapfrog developed markets by taking advantage of trends and technologies that have proven their worth.
